Three Lies From The Devil About Sharing Your Faith

Three of the most common reasons that I have found as to why people don’t share their faith with others are: 

1)      Fear that they won’t know what to say

2)      That they don’t know enough and

3)      That they haven’t been saved long enough.

These are three lies straight from the devil. One of the devils biggest fears is someone getting saved getting excited about God and running out telling people, so he will quickly jump on them and start telling them these lies.

            Lets go through each one of these lies and see what the bible says about them. First is the fear that we will not know what to say. This is probably one of the biggest ones. It is actually bread from another lie that the devil tells us and that is the lie that we need to know all the answers before we can tell people about Christ. Well for one thing we will never know all the answers and if we think that we do then we have a lot more to learn. The devil wants us to think that everyone we talk to is going to challenge us with all these really deep theological questions and when we are not able to answer then we have failed. It’s another lie, I have shared my faith now with somewhere around a thousand or more people. Mostly one on one, and I can’t think of a single one of those people who have asked some deep theological questions. Yes some people asked some tough questions, and some people asked some questions that I wasn’t sure of the answer to but, if you don’t know the answer you can just say I don’t know I will have to check that out but this is what I do know…. And truthfully, most people who God has opened up and is calling once you start talking they are in receive mode and they will just listen.   

            Here is the biblical truth that destroys this lie of the devil. If you step out God will met you and He will put His words in your mouth.

Jeremiah 1:6-9 “Ah, Sovereign Lord,’ I said, ‘I do not know how to speak; I an only a child.’ But the Lord said to me, so not say, ‘I am only a child’ you must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the lord. Then the Lord reached out His hand touched my mouth and said to me ‘Now I have put my words in your mouth.”           

We must not fear what others will say or think we should only put our trust in the promises of our God that when we are obedient to His command (“you must go”) He will go with us and protect us, (“I am with you and will rescue you”)

            The second lie is that we don’t know enough I touched on it a little when discussing the first lie, but let me hit on it a little more. All of these lies overlap and connect so please excuse any double speak. The difference between the fear that we won’t know what to say and the fear that we won’t know enough is slight. The fear that we won’t know what to say is the fear that we will have know Idea how to start a conversation or shat to tell people or how to properly present the gospel. And the fear that we don’t know enough is more specifically the fear that we are not going to be able to answer peoples questions or that they are going to stump us. Again I hit on it a little nit earlier when I talked about not needing to know all the answers, but it is worth saying again, IT IS OK TO SAY I DON’T KNOW. We don’t know it all and shouldn’t act as if we do. Remember God is the one who calls to Him His people we are to be faithful vessels, and allow God to work through us and speak through us. Remember the man who was born blind that Jesus healed, the Pharisees were in an up roar because the people were amazed that the man who was formerly sitting and begging could now see, and he was telling everyone about Jesus the one who healed him. Do you remember what he said when the Pharisees questioned him.

John 9:25 “one thing I do know I was blind now I see”

You see the blind beggar did not have a great understanding of the scriptures he didn’t have his doctrine in theology he never went to seminary school or any evangelism seminar, he was touched and healed by the power of God and got excited about what God had done in his life, that’s it. If you are a born again believer you have been touched by God, you were blind but now you can see. This is true of all of us no matter where you come from or how you were saved one thing is constant in all of us we were touched by God, and He removed the blinders from our eyes.

1 Corr. 1:18 “for the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

See we were all blind before we were touched by God and we need to get excited about what God has done in our life you don’t need a degree or a seminar you just need to tell your story “I was blind and now I see” God will use you just as you are. This dose not mean that you shouldn’t worry about getting in Gods word and studying, the more you study the scripture the more ways God will use you.

            The last lie I want to discuss is I haven’t been saved long enough. Again this overlaps a little, you can look at the beggar again and see that it didn’t take a lot of training and years of school it just took a willingness to speak and an excitement about what God did in his life and he made an impact in his entire town so much so that the Pharisees called him in and then he was a witness for Christ to them. But let me give you a couple more examples. When my first child was born, Tyler my son I had never taken a parenting class, I had never had children before and I couldn’t put into words even what had just happened. All I know was my son was born and I was excited. I could hardly wait to get on the phone and start calling people; I had my whole family at the hospital gathered with us. And I just started telling people about what had happened. WE HAD A BABY HE WEIGHS THIS HE IS THIS LONG HE HAS THIS COLOR EYES HE SMILED HE CRYED HE OPENED HIS EYE!!!!!!!!       I was excited I didn’t even stop to think what am I going to tell people I’ve only been a father for an hour I don’t know what to say I don’t know what to do. I didn’t think about those things because I didn’t care I was excited something had happened to me and I was going to tell everyone. Now we just had out third child in July of this year, I was no longer a n armature I knew just what to say and just what to do so after she was born I got on the phone and I called everyone and said WE HAD A BABY SHE WEIGHS THIS SHE IS THIS LONG SHE HAS THIS COLOR EYES SHE SMILED SHE CRYED SHE OPENED HER EYE!!!!!!!! I was excited and I didn’t do anything differently even though this time I had already had two other children a boy and a girl and I knew somewhat what to expect and I guess a little more, and I had been a father for almost five years already but you know what my experience and knowledge didn’t change a thing I still just got excited and told people what had happened to me. It is the same way when we are sharing our faith. When I first started sharing my faith with others I was just a baby in Christ I’m still just a baby in Christ but what I did was I got saved healed and set free, then I got excited and I began to tell others what had happened to me, I would give my testimony and then I would give the gospel the best that I could. I must confess that Is has gotten much more refined at least the gospel part over the years and I now have a better understanding of it and know how to better communicate it to others Just as I did when I called people to tell them that my daughter Raven was born. I had a better understanding of what people wanted to know and who to call and everything else but it was still the same message and I still today share my faith with people in basically the same way I did when I first began to believe its still the same message. When we are saved we should get excited about what has just happened and we shouldn’t be able to wait to tell others.

John 1:41 “The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘we have found the messiah’ (that is the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus.”

Andrew had only spent one day with Jesus but was excited and could not wait to tell his brother, Simon whose name was changed to Peter who went on to share the gospel with many, many people.

            The devil is afraid of us getting excited about God and what he has done in our lives so he feeds us these lies. We need to remember that they are from the pit we have been called to share the gospel with the nations. And it is time we start to answer that call. Get excited about what God has done in your life tell your brother tell your neighbor tell a complete stranger on the street tell everyone you meet I once was blind but now I see.

           Some Christians are the best at making excuses, alot of the professing christians I talk to and ask about shareing their faith will say things like "I can't share my faith with non-believers thats not my gifting" or "I share my faith by letting the light of Jesus shine in me so that people will see what I have and want it."  I mean, come on!!! first of all Jesus didn't say if you have been blessed with the gift of evangelism then go share your faith He commanded that we go and share our faith. That is a commision that was given to all believers not a select few. Besides that, if we truely believe what we claim to believe then how can we not tell others, would we stand by and watch a baby drowning, or a women being raped NO!!! of course not, how much more important is our eternal salvation, yet so many believers live their entire life in a perishing world with out ever telling a single person. And as far as being a light, yes of course Jesus told us not to hide our light and called us to be differant. Paul said in Romans 12 "do not conform to the ways of this world but be transformed." We are to be a light and to stand out in the world, but how many times do you think people will actually go up to someone and say "man their is just something about you what do you have were can I get it?" Don't get me wrong i'm sure that happens, God is a big God and He speaks to people in many differant ways I just don't think Gods will is for us to sit and wait for Him to throw fish in our boat He wants us to jump in the water and catch the fish.

          "All authority has been given to Me is heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. taching them to observe all thing that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the wnd of the age." Is the Internet Evil?

250,000 that’s the number of new members Myspace gets a day. There has been a lot of buzz in the recent days about the potential danger of the Internet, and the predators that may be lurking there. This bad media has caused a lot of people to be turned off by the use of Blogs, Chat rooms and some people the Internet all-together.

                No doubt if you live in the United States you have heard about the member of homeland security facing charges of solicitation toward a minor. These types of activities carry on everyday over the Internet and should not be ignored. The internet has also made porn, explicit music, violent images and video, as well as many other destructive materials easily available to not only our youth but to the public in general these are things that can negatively effect all of us. So is the Internet evil? Should we refuse to use or allow our families to use it, the answer is of course not.

                The internet much like the TV and the radio must be used responsible and parents need to watch and monitor there children’s use of it but to call it evil and ban it, is to throw away a lawn mower and cut grass with your teeth because the lawn mower can cut off your foot, it is just silly. The devil knows the potential that lies within the Internet. We can talk to people all around the world simply and easily by pushing a couple of buttons. The devil is scared of that kind of power because the last thing he wants is us banning together and sharing Christ all over the world. Take Myspace for instance 250,000 new members a day. Now imagine if we could come together and get the word out in such a way that 250,000 new people a day were joining a site completely devoted to sharing the Gospel and worshiping God. It could happen. On my small website that is only promoted by word of mouth I have had visitor from: The United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, Ireland, Australia, Uruguay, Sweden, Jamaica, Vietnam, Turkey, New Zealand, Kenya, India, Malaysia, Faroe Islands, Switzerland, Guatemala, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Norway, Hong Kong, Israel, and Brazil. If it was not for the Internet it would cost me many thousands of dollars and hundreds maybe even thousands of hours to get to all these places to share and encourage all these different people in all these different places. We have at our hands a very useful tool which when used properly can glorify God all over the world.

       "I will believe it when I see it" that is a statement that is said to me by a small percentage of the people that I talk to on the streets, but it is said by enough that I think it is worth writing about. Its funny to me to hear people say this just because I think that God is soooo obviously present all around us, but the first thing that you have to realize about someone who makes that comment is that in most cases they don't want to see God because if they did then the realization of there being God means that things that they don't want to change in their lives need to change. Therefore they refuse to look. Their is a scene in the movie Left Behind were two of the characters are talking about God one believer and another non-believer, the non-believer made a comment about God showing himself and knocking a cup of water off the table and the believer said "even if He did you would call it coincidence" just then the non-believer stood up to leave as he did he unintentionally bumped the table and knocked the cup off, looked at it and just walked away.

     See the people who don't see God are the people who don't want to. All we need do to see God is look. Look at the ocean how the water just stops and doesn't overtake the land, why because the moon is placed perfectly in position to hold the ocean in check. Look at the sun how it not only gives us light but also heat and is placed perfectly so that it does not get to hot for us to live beneath and is not to far away to give us the heat and light that we need. Look what else the sun does it's heat causes water from the ocean to rise up into the sky were it forms in the clouds then a wind comes by and blows the clouds out over the land wear they drop the water in order to fill lakes and rivers and giving life to the world. I mean did this all happen by chance.

       Sir Isaac Newton said "If there were no evidence for God other then the human thumb I would believe” the way that we are designed is amazing. Ray Comfort makes a statement about thumbs in one of his books he asks "what our hands were reversed?" put on backwards if you will. You could not hold a book, how would you hold your food, and speaking of food thank God for the thousands of taste buds that were out in our mouth. And look at the shape of fruit like bananas, and apples, and pears, and peaches, look at how they fit in your hands perfectly. God is everywhere if you open your eyes to see Him you will. The only way to not see God is to intentionally hide your face from Him, and unfortunately like Adam and Eve many people who have sinned against God feel it is easier to just hide from Him. And like with Adam and Eve God comes calling He knew were Adam and Eve were and He knows were we are, but He wants us to come too Him He is not going to force Himself on anyone. I pray that more people will open their eyes to see that God is at work all around them.    

Laying Down

Today I was in the Juvenile detention center speaking with the youth about Christ. We got into a discussion about laying things down that God put on our hearts that were not glorifying to Him. I went around in a circle and asked each kid if they could think of something that God would ask them to put down. Each person said that they could think of something, we discussed it for a while and then I asked if laying that thing down was something that they wanted to do. One of the kids spoke up and said, “I really want to but I just don’t think that I can.” That response is a very common response and one that the devil loves. I told him that he was completely wrong the truth is that he could put it down and he could walk away from it never returning to it. To say that you are unable to lay down something that is coming in-between you and God is 1. Belittling God saying that He is unable to take that thing from you and that Christ sacrifice on the cross was in vain because sin still has authority over us, and that is just not true sin was defeated on the cross and when we lay our sin down at the foot of that cross God can and will take it from us. The truth is we use this statement as a excuse, it is not that we are to weak to lay it down or that God is to little to take it from us it is that we don’t want to lay it down and we can feel better about ourselves carrying on in our sin when we justify it by saying that we are unable to walk away from it. When Jesus said repent he was saying to change the way that you are thinking, stop putting the things of this world before God and start living your life like God intended for you to live it in a relationship with Him no longer a slave to sin but as a man/women of God not leaning on ourselves and our limitations and start leaning on God who has no limitations. It is time we laid down those things in our life that are not honoring to God. What I did with the kids in the detention center was I told them I was going to say a prayer and I was going to thank God for what He has done for us to free us from our sin and then I told them that if they wanted to lay those things down to stick out their hand and put it down on the floor laying it down and leaving it there. I am going to offer you the same opportunity if there is something in your life right now that is not honoring to God then it is time to do business with God right now what ever it is don’t think for one second that it is to big for God or that you are to weak God already concurred sin and He is our strength in our weakness so right now say a prayer thanking God for defeating the sin in your life put your hands on the ground laying down those things in your life that aren’t honoring to Him and leave them their pray that He takes those things from you and walk away from them never turning back.                                  

Thank You Jesus that you defeated sin and concurred death that I may live.

These are Mercedes Brothers and Sisters. Mercedes is my daughters birthday present. Mercedes is in the bottom strip.

Somtimes it is really hard to move when God tells us to move. I pray daily that God will show me were He is at work around me, but then when He does I strugle to move with Him. Today I was at a county building for a meeting when the reveiwer whom I was meeting and I crossed paths with a lady walking on crutches. I held the door for her and we all walked toward the other side of the building togeather as she explained to him what had happened to her. she said that she had sliped and torn somthing  in her knee and had to have surgery on it today at 2:00. I didn't really think much of it and I went on to continue doing what I had to do in the building and as I was finishing up I heard her voice again coming from around the corner, and God at that moment put her on my heart. He begin to urge me to go pray for her and I begain to make excuses as to why I shouldn't, however I made a promise to God along time ago that whenever I felt Him speaking to me that I would listen, so I followed the direction that I heard her voice coming from and it lead me to her office, I steped into her office and asked her if I could speak with her she said sure and I explained to her that I felt like God wanted me to pray with her that her leg would be healed and I asked if she would mind if I did and she said that she didn't mind so I begain to pray for healing to come to that knee. there was no sign of the knee getting better and as I left the building I was a little disscouraged because I didn't see God heal her leg but God encouraged me that His work was being done. I am not sure exactly what happened with the lady as the day went on I hope to find out in the coming weeks but I am confident that Gods will is good and that His will would be done in that situation. God does not always show us the whole picture sometimes He just says go, but we can be sure that if we are obediant to the will of God He will bless us and those around us, I know that God is working in that womens body I can't see the whole picture right now and I might not ever as long as I am on this earth but I know this that God is good and God had a reason for having me pray with that women and what ever reason that is I don't need to know I just need to know that God is moving around me and when He reveals Himself top me I''m moving with Him.  I encourage you when you feel like God is prompting you to move then obey you may not see results right away but you can stand firm in your faith that God is good and His will and His purposes are good.
